about

Hello listener, thanks for taking the time to check out my music and a piece of my brain. Here are some things to think about while listening to these songs if you feel so inclined.

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis says the following:

"God will invade. But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realize what it will be like when He does. When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else - something it never entered your head to conceive - comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choice left? For this time it will God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature."

These two songs are inspired by the end of human history and the state of the world leading up to it. Solace & the Sea explores the picture painted by the words of Jesus Christ to his followers in the Gospel accounts and the book of Revelation.

We read in the Gospels that people will be filled with fear and hate; that the love of people will grow cold; that war, greed, conquest, and disease will spread like never before; that families and friends will turn on each other; that the things coming to earth are completely and utterly unprecedented.

In Revelation, we see wild imagery of the sky peeling back like a scroll and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the realm beyond our own. Following suit, the sea is often represented as the untamable potential for evil and chaos. From this same sea rises a beast that is Satan's conduit of deception, death, and destruction. Even now, we scramble for answers to make sense of why the world is the way it is. We put our hope in money, politicians, and a world system bound to a cycle of corruption, oppression, and failure.

Is this system worth putting our hope in?

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more... He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21: 1, 4

What do you hope in?
